Commercial disclosure and comparison rules
Read how these comparisons are made before you trust a verdict. No vendor pays for placement, facts come from each vendor's own pages, and every head-to-head names a case where the other product wins.
Details
Find out who owns a comparison site before you trust its verdicts, and that includes this one. FTC guidance says a reviewer must clearly disclose any material connection to a product it rates12. The FTC has also acted against a comparison site whose rankings were shaped by payments it did not disclose13. Here, no vendor can buy a rank, a badge or the removal of a criticism, and none of the compared vendors reviewed these pages. Facts come first from each vendor's own current pages, then from official guidance. Nothing was tested hands-on. Every head-to-head names at least one case where the other product wins. To report an error, send a link to the page that proves it.

Four kinds of product all get called AI chat: a managed website assistant, a live-chat suite, AI inside a help desk, and a chatbot builder. Find the kind that matches how you work before you compare features.
Details
The words AI chat cover four kinds of product, and buying the wrong kind costs more than any feature gap. A managed website assistant, like First AI Employee, is run for you and sticks to answering questions, qualifying leads and booking2. A live-chat suite is a workspace, and a workspace needs people in it. Tidio's Lyro AI agent can run alone or inside Tidio, where your staff take over6. Help desk AI, like Zendesk AI, works inside a customer-service platform you must also buy8. Intercom Fin is an AI agent built to work with a help desk4. A chatbot builder such as ChatBot.com hands you the flows and the upkeep10. They look alike in a demo.

- Website assistant: A focused on-site answer, qualification and action layer.
- Builder: A configurable workflow product whose buyer owns more design and maintenance.
- Help-desk suite: A broader system with inbox, agent and support-workflow dependencies.
- Managed service: A service model that includes setup or ongoing operational work.
- Managed website assistant
- Set up and run for you, and kept to answering questions, qualifying leads and booking. First AI Employee is this kind; its pages describe no help desk or staffed live chat.
- Live-chat suite
- A workspace where your staff answer chats, with AI such as Tidio's Lyro able to run alone or hand over to a person. It only pays off if someone is there to take over.
- Help desk AI
- AI that works inside a customer-service platform you must also buy, like Zendesk AI. Intercom Fin is built to work with a help desk too, so note which one you already run.
- Chatbot builder
- A tool like ChatBot.com that hands you the flows, the branches and the upkeep. Someone on your team has to build it and keep it current.
Direct comparisons
Each head-to-head turns on one difference: the billing unit, the help desk, the platform, or who builds the flows. Every page says when the other product is the better pick, and when neither fits.
Details
Each head-to-head below turns on a different question. Against Tidio, it is the billing unit: Lyro charges by AI conversation6, while First AI Employee sells a monthly message allowance1. Against Intercom Fin, it is the help desk, since Fin charges per outcome and Intercom seat costs may also apply3. Against Zendesk AI, you buy a service platform with per-agent pricing first and get AI agents inside it8. Against ChatBot.com, it is who builds: you set up the flows yourself, and it bills per user10. No card names a winner for everyone. Each one says when the other product is the better pick. Prices were checked on October 20, 2026, so treat them as a starting point.

Compare all current products
The full table lines up what each product does, how it bills, what it needs underneath, and who answers when the AI stops. The prices use different units, so compare them on your own chat volume.
Details
No two products in the table bill the same way, so the price column cannot be added up. First AI Employee sells monthly message allowances1. Tidio's Lyro counts AI conversations6. Intercom Fin charges per outcome, and seat costs may also apply3. Zendesk charges per agent, includes AI agents, and bills extra automated resolutions on top8. ChatBot.com charges per user, with plan allowances10. To compare, push one real month of your own chats through each meter. Then check what each product needs underneath: a help desk you already run, a platform plan, or staff to answer handed-off chats. Read the best-fit column last. It describes a situation, not a rank.

| Question | How to check |
|---|---|
| Capabilities | Open each vendor's own product page and list what it says the AI does, such as answer, qualify, book or hand off. Leave a blank where the page says nothing. |
| Pricing model | Find the billing unit on each pricing page: messages, AI conversations, outcomes, agents or users. Then run one real month of your own chats through each meter. |
| Dependencies | Write down what each product needs underneath it, such as a help desk you already run, a platform plan, or staff to answer handed-off chats. |
| Human workspace | Check whether the product gives your staff a place to answer chats, and who would actually log in. A workspace with nobody in it adds cost and no help. |
| Best-fit scenario | Read this column last and match it to your own situation. It describes a kind of business, not a rank, so ask whether that business looks like yours. |
Good enough when, the same for every row above: Record the authoritative result or preserve context for the named human handoff. Do not count generated text as resolution.
Methodology and evidence status
Each fact shows when it was last checked against the vendor's own page. If a vendor's page does not say something, the table says so. That gap is a question to ask, not a missing feature.
Details
Dates matter more than labels on a page like this. Every vendor fact here carries the date it was last checked against that vendor's own page, and the current round was checked on October 20, 2026. Current means the fact matched the vendor's page on that date. Review due means the check is old enough that you should open the vendor's page yourself. Material change detected means the vendor's page has changed since the last check, so treat the old fact with care. Correction pending means a reader reported an error that is not fixed yet. When a vendor's page does not say something, the table says so. A missing fact is not a missing feature. Ask the vendor.

These are the sources behind this section, in reading order, with the date each was checked.
- Current: The fact matched the vendor's own page on the date shown. The current round was checked on October 20, 2026.
- Review due: The last check is old enough that you should open the vendor's page yourself before relying on it. Competitor pricing is rechecked about monthly.
- Material change detected: The vendor's page has changed since the last check, so treat the old fact with care until it is checked again against the new page.
- Correction pending: A reader reported an error that is not fixed yet. Reports like this, and notes about outdated sources, come in through the site's contact page.
Build a shortlist
Write your must-haves first, price each product on a real month of chats, then test it with questions you expect it to fail. Drop anything that misses a must-have, however well it does elsewhere.
Details
Settle your must-haves before the first demo. List the channel, the actions that must finish, such as a booked appointment or a lead sent to your inbox, whether a person must be reachable, and any data you cannot send, like patient records at a dental office. Anything that fails one is out. Next, cost: run one real month of your chats through each vendor's billing unit. Then test with real questions, including ones you expect it to fail. Read star ratings with care, too. The FTC banned fake reviews and testimonials, including AI-written ones, in a rule that took effect in October 202414. The rule makes fakes illegal, and some still get posted.

Details
Frequently asked questions
Why are these products compared if they are different?
They overlap on some jobs buyers need done, but they are different kinds of product. Each comparison page says where they overlap and where they do not before it recommends anything.
Does a vendor pay to appear?
No vendor may pay for inclusion, placement, or score.
How current are the comparisons?
Each fact row and page shows the date it was last checked. Prices are checked at least monthly, important capabilities at least every 60 days, and First AI Employee's own product facts every week.
Are customer reviews used in scoring?
Only when where they came from and how they were gathered is documented. Unchecked testimonials, star averages copied from marketplaces and the number of reviews are not treated as evidence of how well a product works.
Can I request a correction?
Yes. The contact page and every comparison offer a way to send one. A confirmed correction that changes something important is logged with its date, its evidence and the verdict it changed.
