How this comparison works
Five products, picked because each sells AI website service and documents it on its own pages. Placement comes from those pages and your scenario, never from payment or hands-on tests.
Details
Each product on this list sells AI that answers customers on a business website and documents it on its own pages: First AI Employee, Tidio, Intercom Fin, Zendesk AI and ChatBot.com. Vendors cannot pay for inclusion or placement. Official pages, checked October 20, 2026, come first, and gaps are marked unknown. Scoring is by scenario, so there is no overall winner. Nothing was tested hands-on, and no testimonials are used. The FTC's 2024 rule bans fake reviews and testimonials, AI-written ones included16. FTC guidance also says reviewers must clearly disclose material connections12, and the agency has acted against a comparison site over rankings it said were shaped by payments14.

Best fit by scenario
No universal winner. Each first pick and alternative below fits one way of running customer service, judged on each vendor's current pages.
Done-for-you website assistant
Result: First AI Employee; alternative: Tidio Lyro
Must-have: Website questions, leads and bookings handled for you
First AI Employee is a managed website assistant, set up for you. Tidio is the alternative when its higher-plan managed setup suits you.
Trade-off: Tidio bills by AI conversation and runs differently.
Watch out: First AI Employee is not a shared inbox, ticketing system or multichannel tool.
Stated on its own pages · sources S03, S22, S23Your staff answer chats, with AI help
Result: Tidio Lyro; alternative: Intercom Fin
Must-have: A chat inbox for your staff, with AI handing chats to them
Tidio and Intercom Fin can both hand chats to people, depending on the plan.
Trade-off: Check the plan, platform, seats and handoff before you buy.
Watch out: Choose neither if the plan you pick does not get chats to a person.

Choose by scenario
Match your business to one of five scenarios, from a managed website assistant to broad help-desk automation. Each scenario names a first pick and, where one exists, an alternative.
Details
Most buyers fit one of five scenarios. A salon or a law firm that wants a managed website assistant: First AI Employee, or Tidio Lyro if you would rather set it up yourself. A live-chat team that wants AI in front: Tidio, or ChatBot.com. A business whose tickets already live in Zendesk: Zendesk AI, or Intercom Fin, which plugs into help desks5. Someone who wants to design chatbot flows: ChatBot.com11. The others publish too little about flow building to name a second pick. Broad support automation for a staffed team: Intercom Fin, then Zendesk AI. Each pick fails when its scenario is wrong for you. A managed assistant cannot run a ticket queue.

At-a-glance comparison
A side-by-side view of product type, channels, human backup, actions, billing unit and what you must already own. Read the do-not-choose column first.
Details
Start with the last two columns, best fit and do not choose when, because they decide most shortlists. Product type: First AI Employee is a managed website assistant for questions, lead qualification and booking2. Tidio Lyro and Intercom Fin are AI agents7. Zendesk AI works inside a service platform9, and ChatBot.com is a chatbot and workflow builder11. Human workspace: Tidio, Intercom, Zendesk and ChatBot.com each describe a human handoff or live chat, but the terms depend on your plan, so ask them. First AI Employee is not human live chat. Entry dependency is the quiet cost. A seat tier or help-desk subscription under the AI changes the price you compare.

| Question | How to check |
|---|---|
| Product class | Read the vendor's own description of what it sells: a managed assistant, an AI agent, AI inside a service platform or a workflow builder. |
| Channels | List where you need answers, such as your website, and confirm each channel on the vendor's own page rather than in a demo. |
| Human workspace | Ask how a chat reaches a person and on which plan. First AI Employee's assistant collects the visitor's details for follow-up; the other four tie handoff terms to the plan. |
| Actions | Name each action you need, like booking on a connected calendar, and watch it complete in a trial. A claimed action with no record does not count. |
| Billing unit | Find the single event that uses up one unit: a message, a conversation, an outcome or a seat. The unit decides who pays for a busy month. |
| Entry dependency | Check what you must already pay for before the AI works, such as a seat tier or a help-desk subscription, and add it to the price. |
| Best fit | Match the tool to the staff you have. A one-person front desk and a team with a staffed help desk land on different rows. |
| Do not choose when | Look for the dealbreaker in your own setup, such as nobody to answer handoffs or nobody to maintain flows, before you weigh features. |
Good enough when, the same for every row above: Record the authoritative result or preserve context for the named human handoff. Do not count generated text as resolution.
Detailed product assessments
One short assessment per product: who it suits, what its official pages confirm, how it bills and who should pick something else.
Details
First AI Employee answers visitors' questions, qualifies inquiries, collects contact details and books on a connected calendar2. It is not a help desk, and Google review replies are not available yet. Tidio Lyro runs standalone or inside Tidio with human handoff, which suits a small team happy to set it up7. Intercom Fin suits a staffed support team that wants an AI agent passing work to people in a help desk5. Zendesk AI suits a business already running Zendesk, because the platform is the purchase9. ChatBot.com suits someone who wants to build chatbot flows11. A plumber who wants no setup work should skip the builders. A ten-agent team should skip a website-only assistant.

When it fits. Pick it when you want it set up and run for you, and its channels, tasks, plan and published limits match the must-haves you wrote down. Test it with a few real customer questions first, including one that should go wrong, and check what happens when a person needs to take over.
When to pick something else. Choose another tool if you need a task it does not list, an integration it does not name, or a full help desk with tickets and a shared team inbox. A self-serve builder, a broader suite, or a specialist tool may fit better.
Tidio
What Tidio Lyro's own pages say. Each fact below comes from its official pages, with the date it was checked. A product type or a price tells you what you would buy. It does not tell you how well it answers your customers or whether it saves you money.
- What it is
- AI customer-service agent available standalone or with Tidio. Stated on its own pages, checked 2026-10-2067.
- Starts at
- Lyro AI Agent from $32.50/month billed annually or $39/month billed monthly for 50 conversations. Stated on its own pages, checked 2026-10-226.

Ask before you choose. Take these questions to your demo or quote request. Ask for answers about the exact plan you would buy, and write down anything they cannot confirm.
- Which interaction consumes an AI conversation in the selected Lyro plan?
- Is the intended offer standalone or attached to a broader Tidio workspace?
- How many people need the human inbox after an automated handoff?
- What managed help, if any, belongs to the rendered package rather than another tier?
When it fits. Shortlist Tidio Lyro when its product type, billing, setup work and human backup match the must-haves you wrote down. Then test it with a few real calls or chats, including one that should go wrong.
When to pause. Hold off if its pages do not state a task you need, an integration, where it works, how it handles sensitive data, or how it passes a customer to a person. If its pages and your own test disagree, trust the test and ask them why.

Pricing model comparison
Each vendor bills by a different unit, so headline prices do not compare. Run one month of your own chats through each unit before you shortlist.
Details
Billing units decide who carries the cost of a busy month. First AI Employee sells message allowances: $25, $49 and $99 a month for 5,000, 15,000 and 50,000 messages1. Tidio bills Lyro by AI conversations6. Intercom bills Fin per outcome, and seat costs may apply3. Zendesk starts from agent seats and charges for extra automated resolutions8. ChatBot.com bills per user10. Try one example. Three hundred chats a month at ten messages each is 3,000 messages, 300 conversations and perhaps 150 outcomes if half finish without a person. Each plan prices that month differently, and some charges depend on tiers you only see at checkout. The pricing guide works through the full math.

- Messages
- Three hundred chats at ten messages each is 3,000 messages. First AI Employee sells monthly message allowances, so long chats use more of them.
- Conversations
- The same month counts as 300 conversations, the unit Tidio uses for Lyro. Chat length stops mattering, and chat count drives the bill.
- Outcomes
- If half finish with no person, that is perhaps 150 outcomes. Intercom bills Fin per outcome, so ask exactly what counts as one.
- Seats and base platform
- Zendesk starts from agent seats and ChatBot.com bills per user. These charges apply before any usage, and some tiers appear only at checkout.
How we would test finalists
Give two finalists the same seven tests in one day, including questions they cannot answer and a booking that must land in a real calendar.
Details
Run seven tests on both finalists in one day and the gap will show. Knowledge accuracy: ask 20 questions you already know the answers to, such as an auto shop's hours or a vet clinic's vaccine prices. Unknown handling: ask five it cannot know and check that it says so. Action completion: book a real slot and find it in the calendar. Handoff: ask for a person and read what staff receive. Administration: change one price and time how long the bot takes to use it. Reporting: find last week's worst chat. Cost reconciliation: compare the first bill with the quote. Treat sales-deck performance claims as claims. The FTC says there is no AI exemption from consumer-protection law15.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI customer-service software?
No single winner holds up, because website assistants, live-chat tools, help desks and bot builders do different jobs. Pick the kind of product first. Then compare the vendors that fit, using your channels, the actions you need, how your staff work, reporting and cost.
Which AI customer-service tool is best for a small-business website?
A managed website assistant may be the simplest fit when the job is routine questions, taking in leads, qualifying them and booking appointments. A live-chat or help-desk platform fits better when staff need a shared inbox, tickets or a history across several channels.
Which product is best for an existing support team?
Tools that work inside the help desk or live-chat workspace your team already uses are usually the stronger candidates, because handoff, ticket history, permissions and reporting are central to that team's work. Check that it works with your exact plan and channel today.
Are the products on this page tested hands-on?
No. Every product here is judged from its official pages and documents, and nothing on this page is described as hands-on tested.
